I saw the movie Belfast, which was a quasi-biographical story of Kenneth Branagh's family during the early years of The Troubles. It was an education, much like your post today.
I loved “Belfast” too. Seeing the Troubles through the eyes of a young boy coming of age in impossible times, Dame Judi Dench as the tough loving grandma, the b/w filmography, all of it.
Focus Features sent me a coffee table book of B&W stills from the movie, thoughts from Kenneth Branagh. It's not commercially available, but it's haunting and beautiful.
I agree, this was quite an education. I must recommend your posts to my Mom, who is also a history buff. Thank you!
